The Stone Mountain Village Visitor Center, housed in a 1914 Seaboard Railroad Wood Center-Cupola Caboose, original Seaboard number 5506, is located in Historic Stone Mountain Village. Our Caboose was part of the Georgia Scenic Railroad for many years before becoming a ticket booth inside neighboring Stone Mountain Park. The caboose was donated to the City of Stone Mountain by the Stone Mountain Memorial Association and dedicated to Mari Jo Ford in honor of her many years of service to the City of Stone Mountain, Stone Mountain Park and DeKalb County.
Just before being moved to the Village, the caboose was used in the filming of the movie Fried Green Tomatoes in Juliet, Georgia. Our center is ADA-accessible and welcomes visitors from all 50 states and dozens of countries each year. Stop in to see us before going into Stone Mountain Park!
Our year-round hours of operation are Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00am-4:00pm. From mid-April to mid-October we are also open on Sunday from 1:00-4:00 pm.
During the week our center is staffed by volunteers. If you find us closed, we apologize.
