Proposed Annexation

The City of Stone Mountain is considering expanding to include an additional 1.635 square miles within its city limits and your property is within the desired expansion area. The goal of this boundary expansion is to improve the city’s tax base, annual revenue, and to ensure the residents within the proposed expansion area receive proper attention and service from a governing jurisdiction.

Annexation is a process by which a City adds property or properties into its jurisdiction. Georgia Law allows annexation to occur in one of five ways. The City of Stone Mountain has chosen Annexation by the General Assembly which allows residents to have a referendum on the upcoming ballot in November 2018 to vote to expand the City of Stone Mountain’s boundary to include the proposed annexation area (see Geographical Annexation Map).

In an effort to educate the public and obtain feedback and support for the Annexation Plan, the City of Stone Mountain and Nickel Works Consulting, LLC will be conducting community canvassing events between Saturday, February 10th and Friday, February 23rd.  The public is encouraged to provide comments on the proposed annexation.

The public is welcome to attend the City of Stone Mountain Council Work Session meeting on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 @ 6:30pm at Stone Mountain City Hall at which time the annexation plan will be a topic of discussion.
